"The BAD advice of RACENET page!
"

(aka Internet Racers Supply or IRS)

UPDATES:

9-13-02: Dennis from Racenet emailed, "The pictures show that the stock spring seats were used rather than the spring seats supplied with our spring package. By using the stock spring seat the inner spring sits .130" higher than it is supposed to thus causing the spring to coil bind .130" sooner than it would have if properly installed. Your pictures clearly show that this is what happened."

Still wrong Racenet!
I used what they sent me... THEY MEASURE .049" - .050", and the inner spring fits right over the seat (pics below this box).

9-10-02: An LT1 Edit list member discovered this mismatch of parts in 1999 and fought with "Dennis" who only agreed to refund the money for the parts emailed me.

.

I would put a picture of a stock spring seat here, but I foolishly threw them away with the old (60,xxx mile) springs. I can't remember what they look like, but it seems they were thicker and had a "step-up" in them. If you have a picture of a stock seat and would like to donate it to EXPOSE the TRUTH. Please email me at tim@shootmyphoto.com

Racenet offered to replace the retainer!

Tim,
This is indeed the correct spring package for this camshaft. It has been ran successfully on hundreds of vehicles, for the past 5 years utilizing the same camshaft (including my vehicle). So I will stand by the fact that these valvesprings are the correct spring for this particular application.

I have offered to replace the part that has indeed failed.

Sincerely,
JB Manning
